Suspect Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges
On May 29, 2025, at approximately 1:42 p.m., Parsons Police officers responded to a report of trespassing in progress at a residence in the 1800 block of Levy Avenue. While enroute, dispatch advised officers that the suspect had reportedly made suicidal statements and was self-harming.
Upon arrival, Officer Tyller White made contact with the female reporting party and victim. The victim, visibly distressed and crying, informed officers that the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Zachary Rowland Jr, had fled the scene on foot toward a wooded area and nearby railroad tracks.
The victim reported that Rowland had unlawfully entered her residence without permission, made threats to harm himself, and ultimately stabbed himself multiple times in her presence. She further stated that she feared for the safety of both her and her young child, who witnessed the altercation.
Parsons Police conducted an immediate search of the area, and with assistance from Community Service Officer Ricky Thompson, Rowland was located and taken into custody without further incident. He was later booked into the Parsons Police Department jail and advised of the charges against him. He had no apparent self-inflicted stab wounds.
The victim provided a detailed statement and agreed to assist with the prosecution. The case was later referred to the Parsons Police Department Domestic Violence Unit (DVU).
Chief Robert Spinks commended the officers' swift response and emphasized the department's continued commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence stating "Our officers acted quickly and with compassion in a highly volatile and emotionally charged situation. This case does not do justice to the serious nature of domestic violence and the lasting trauma it can inflict, especially on children. We are committed to supporting victims and holding offenders accountable."
The Parsons Police Department have sent the following charges to the Labette County Attorney for review and official charging on Mr. Rowland; Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, Criminal Threat, Aggravated Endangering a Child, Domestica Battery and Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness.
