Police Arrest Shooting Suspect Following Extended Standoff

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, officers with the Parsons Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim who had arrived at Labette Health's Emergency Room seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg.
During the investigation, officers determined the shooting had occurred at the Mendota Creek Apartments in Parsons. No calls reporting gunfire or a shooting had been received from residents at the apartment complex prior to the victim's arrival at the hospital.
Officers and Detectives responded to the scene and began conducting interviews with the victim and witnesses. Although the victim was uncooperative with investigators, an eyewitness identified the suspected shooter as Travon Logan, 19, of Parsons.
As the investigation continued, officers received information that Logan was located at a residence in the 1400 block of Belmont Avenue. Officers responded to the location and observed Logan inside the residence through a window. Occupants of the residence were ordered to exit while officers continued their investigation.
During contact with officers, Nalijah Schlotman denied consent to search the residence and falsely stated that Logan was not inside the home. Another occupant who exited the residence later confirmed that Logan remained inside. Based upon the information gathered during the investigation, Schlotman was arrested for Interference with Law Enforcement.
Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for Logan and a warrant for the residence. Due to the violent nature of the incident and the belief that Logan remained armed inside the home, officers established a perimeter around the residence and began efforts to negotiate his surrender.
The Parsons Police Department requested assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol Special Response Team (SRT), including crisis negotiators, and tactical personnel. The Labette County Sheriff's Office also responded to assist with perimeter security and operational support.
Negotiations continued throughout the morning hours. At approximately 10:30 a.m., Logan surrendered and was taken into custody without injury to himself, officers, or members of the public.
Logan will be transported to the Labette County Jail and booked on charges of Aggravated Battery and Discharge of a Firearm Within City Limits. There was evidence of drugs in the residence that were found during the service of the warrant. Additional charges may be requested as the investigation continues.
"We appreciate the support of our law enforcement partners, including the Labette County Sheriff's Office," said Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks. "We especially appreciate the support of the specialized units of the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) who deployed specially training crisis negotiators and drone operators. The Special Response Team (SRT) was also instrumental to ensure safety not just to the suspect and surrounding neighborhood but also to the other responding officers. In the end, the lowest level of force was utilized to gain the highest level of voluntary compliance from the suspect resulting in his safe apprehension without further injury to anyone."
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
