The Parsons Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Mendota Creek Apartment complex in the 1400 block of South 25th Street.
At approximately 1:56 a.m., Parsons Police officers were dispatched to reports of multiple gunshots being fired into an occupied apartment. Upon arrival, officers discovered that several rounds had struck the residence, penetrating the exterior door and causing damage inside the apartment. Several individuals, including juveniles and young children, were inside the residence when the shooting occurred.
One juvenile sustained a minor injury during the incident and was transported to Labette Health for medical evaluation. Medical personnel determined that the injuries were not life-threatening. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported despite multiple rounds entering the occupied residence. The injury was reportedly caused by debris and not a bullet.
Officers immediately secured the area, provided assistance to those involved, and began collecting physical evidence. Officers recovered multiple spent cartridge casings and other evidence associated with the shooting.
Preliminary information gathered during the investigation suggests the shooting may have been connected to an earlier altercation between individuals at a separate location in Parsons. Patrol officers worked throughout the early morning hours to identify those potentially involved and pursue investigative leads.
Based on the information currently available, officers believe this was an isolated incident involving individuals connected to an earlier dispute. There is no information at this time indicating an ongoing or widespread threat to the general public.
However, the Parsons Police Department takes incidents of gun violence extremely seriously, particularly when innocent individuals and children are placed in danger. "Discharging a firearm into an occupied residence is an extremely reckless and dangerous act. The fact that multiple children were inside this apartment makes this incident even more concerning. We are fortunate that no one suffered more serious injuries," said Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks. "Our officers responded quickly, secured the scene, and immediately began working to identify those responsible. We want our community to know that we are actively investigating this incident and will continue working to hold those responsible accountable."
The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released when appropriate. To protect the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of those involved, the department will not release the identities of the juvenile victim, witnesses, or individuals being investigated at this time.
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspdks.gov.
