The Parsons Police Department is proud to announce that Detective Sergeant Tony Adamson has been named the 2025 Officer of the Year by Parsons Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Brown-Bishop Post 704, an honor recognizing his exceptional service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the citizens of Parsons and Labette County.
Detective Sergeant Adamson currently serves in the department's Domestic Violence Unit, where he leads investigative efforts focused on protecting victims of abuse and ensuring offenders are held accountable through thorough, evidence-based investigations. His dedication to this challenging and often emotionally demanding work has made a significant impact on both victims and the broader community.
Tony brings more than 17 years of law enforcement experience to the profession. He began his career in 2008 as a Reserve Police Officer with the Coffeyville Police Department, later becoming a full-time patrolman in 2010. In 2012, he joined the Parsons Police Department as a Public Safety Officer, where he quickly established himself as a dependable and community-focused officer.
In 2017, Adamson continued his service with the Labette County Sheriff's Office as a Patrol Deputy, where he was selected for the K9 Unit. Alongside his K9 partner, Memphis, he served the community with distinction in narcotics detection, suspect tracking, and community outreach. The team became known throughout the region for their professionalism, reliability, and operational success.
Adamson returned to the Parsons Police Department in September 2022 as a Patrol Sergeant, where he supervised patrol operations while mentoring and training the next generation of officers. In addition to his supervisory role, he served as K9 Unit Supervisor and a Field Training Officer, ensuring new recruits were equipped with the knowledge, ethics, and professionalism required of modern law enforcement officers.
In February 2024, he transitioned to the Investigations Division as a Detective Sergeant, where his investigative experience and strong interpersonal skills quickly proved invaluable. Recognizing his compassion, attention to detail, and trauma-informed approach, the department assigned him in September 2024 to lead investigative work within the newly established Domestic Violence Unit.
His work in that role has strengthened the department's response to domestic violence cases and helped ensure victims receive the attention, support, and justice they deserve.
Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd praised Adamson's commitment and leadership within the department saying "Detective Sergeant Adamson has demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication and professionalism throughout his career. His leadership in the development and continued growth of our Domestic Violence Unit has significantly improved how we support victims and investigate these complex cases. Tony's work ethic, compassion for those he serves, and commitment to holding offenders accountable make him truly deserving of this recognition."
Adamson has also pursued extensive professional training in specialized investigative disciplines, including Narcotics Enforcement, Suspect Interview and Interrogation Techniques, Trauma-Informed Interviewing, Child Forensic Interviewing, Domestic Violence Response, and Sexual Assault Investigations. These skills allow him to approach investigations with both technical expertise and empathy for victims navigating difficult circumstances.
The Parsons Police Department congratulates Detective Sergeant Tony Adamson on this well-deserved recognition and thanks VFW Post 704 for continuing to recognize the dedication and sacrifices of local law enforcement officers.
Through his service, leadership, and compassion, Detective Sergeant Adamson exemplifies the mission of the Parsons Police Department to protect and serve the community with the police department's core values of Pride, Professionalism, and Dedication.
