On February 24, 2026, officers with the Parsons Police Department arrested Kevin Bellamy following a series of incidents involving weapons violations, drug offenses, and the destruction of evidence during transport to the Labette County Jail.
At approximately 3:10 p.m., Parsons Police officers responded to a report of a male riding a bicycle while carrying a large knife in the area of South 31st Street and Frisco Avenue. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Bellamy, who was found in possession of a machete, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Bellamy was taken into custody without incident. Officers confirmed on scene that Bellamy was on parole at the time of the encounter and was prohibited from possessing weapons.
Bellamy was placed under arrest for suspicion of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and taken to the Labette County Jail for booking.
During the course of the incident he manipulated his restraints and ingested an unknown item. Officers contacted Emergency Medical Services, and his vital signs were stable. Bellamy was then transported to the Labette County Jail without further incident.
A subsequent review of in-car camera footage confirmed Bellamy removing a small white object from his waistband and placing it into his mouth. During a search of the patrol vehicle, officers located a green coin purse believed to have contained additional marijuana. Based on the totality of the investigation and Bellamy's actions during transport, additional charges were requested.
Bellamy was booked into Labette County Jail on the following charges:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of Marijuana
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Interference with Law Enforcement (Destruction of Evidence)
"This incident highlights the continued challenges officers face when dealing with repeat offenders who pose risks to public safety and to themselves," said Lt. Kyle Wiford. "Our officers acted quickly and professionally to ensure the safety of the public and to address a dangerous situation that escalated during transport. This like many other cases in Parsons stem from the See It, Hear It, Report It, philosophy that we have spread throughout the community."
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspdks.gov.
