Parsons Police Department Sees Significant Reductions in Crime Rates for 2024

Date Posted: 07/07/2025

The Parsons Police Department is proud to report significant improvements in community safety over the past year, according to newly released crime index data comparing 2023 to 2024.

Overall, the City of Parsons experienced a 14.57% reduction in total crime in 2024. Property crime - which affects the greatest number of residents and businesses - showed an especially notable decline, with property crime incidents dropping by 22.81% from the previous year.

"These results reflect the dedication of our officers, the support of the community, and the proactive efforts we've made to deter crime and improve quality of life for our citizens," said Chief Robert Spinks. "Our focus on community-oriented policing and collaboration with local stakeholders is making a real difference."

Key highlights from the 2024 crime data include:

·         Overall Crime Decreased by 14.57%

·         Property Crime Decreased by 22.81%

·         Violent Crime Increased by 20.00% (an expected result tied to enhanced reporting and proactive interventions)

While the initial data reflects an increase in reported violent crime, this change is largely attributable to the successful launch of the Parsons Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) in mid-2023. The unit was established to address the often-under-reported issue of domestic violence in our community.

"With the new unit in place, victims of domestic violence are receiving stronger support and are more empowered to report abuse," explained Lieutenant Sherri McGuire, who oversees the initiative. "Our goal is not only to respond to these incidents but also to provide resources and help break cycles of violence."

The increase in violent crime reports, therefore, does not indicate an actual surge in violence, but rather improved victim outreach, reporting accuracy, and investigative focus.

At the same time, the sharp decrease in property crime demonstrates the effectiveness of the department's targeted patrols, enhanced investigations, and partnerships with residents and businesses to promote crime prevention.

"We are encouraged by these positive trends and remain committed to building on this progress in 2025," said Chief Spinks. "By working together as a community, we can continue to create a safer, stronger Parsons."

The Parsons Police Department thanks the community for its ongoing support and encourages residents to remain engaged in local crime prevention initiatives.
