The Parsons Police Department has arrested a local man following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of suspected narcotics in his vehicle.
On October 17, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Officer Brett Malle of the Parsons Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Appleton Avenue after observing a red Chevrolet HHR with a defective headlight.
During the stop, Officer Malle identified the driver as John Edward Logan, with a female passenger. While speaking with Logan, Officer Malle noted erratic behavior and statements that raised suspicion. After confirming the validity of the driver's license and registration, Officer Malle requested assistance from the Labette County Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Brian Siu and K9 Benny responded to the scene, along with Deputy Connor Eichinger. K9 Benny conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. Officers then conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle and discovered a small baggie containing a white crystalline substance, a straw commonly used for drug ingestion, and a large decorative sword near the center console.
The suspected narcotic tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine using field test kits. Logan was placed under arrest and read his Miranda rights. He was transported to the Parsons Police Department, where he refused field sobriety testing and a voluntary blood draw. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood sample signed by a judge, which was collected by Labette EMS personnel. All evidence was processed and secured by the Parsons Police Department.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks commended the teamwork shown between local agencies, "This incident highlights the strong working relationship between the Parsons Police Department and the Labette County Sheriff's Office. The cooperation between officers and deputies ensures that drug-related crimes are investigated thoroughly and safely for the community."
The case has been forwarded to the Labette County Attorney's Office for review of formal charges related to possession of controlled substances and driving while impaired.
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspdks.gov.
