On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at approximately 3:35 a.m., officers with the Parsons Police Department responded to the 1400 block of South 25th Street following a report of an armed assault involving a firearm.

Officers learned that an adult male victim had been threatened with multiple firearms during a confrontation outside an apartment at the Mendota Creek Apartment Complex. During the investigation, the victim reported that the suspect placed a shotgun against him before producing a handgun and threatening him. A second victim reported being struck in the head with the shotgun, causing visible injury.

Shortly after the confrontation, the suspect allegedly returned to the area and damaged the victim's vehicle and personal property before fleeing the scene. Officers documented the property damage in a separate criminal damage to property investigation.

Patrol officers, detectives, and deputies with the Labette County Sheriff's Office immediately began searching for the suspect. A Sheriff's Office K-9 team assisted with tracking efforts, which led investigators to an apartment believed to be associated with the suspect. Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence. The warrant was served, however; the suspect was not located inside.

Later that afternoon, at approximately 1:45 p.m., the suspect, Daiquarrius "Tre" Higgins, voluntarily arrived at the Parsons Police Department requesting to speak with investigators. Higgins agreed to an interview with detectives and was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Following the investigation, Higgins was arrested and booked into the Parsons Police Department Holding Facility on the following requested charges Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Burglary, Criminal Damage to Property and Criminal Threat. Additional charges remain under review as the investigation continues and all requested charges are subject to review by the Labette County Attorney's Office.

The Parsons Police Department would like to thank Labette County Sheriff's Office, including the K-9 Unit, for their assistance during the investigation and search efforts.

This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspdks.gov.
