On September 23, 2026, at approximately 9:11 a.m., Parsons Police responded to the campground area of Marvel Park following a report of a fight in progress, possibly involving a weapon.
Upon arrival, officers contacted a male victim who reported that a neighboring camper, identified as Anna Stemple, had come onto his campsite during a confrontation while armed with a large flashlight.
According to the initial investigation, Stemple allegedly attempted to strike the victim with the flashlight. The victim raised his arm to protect himself and was struck in the forearm, causing an injury. Stemple is also alleged to have pushed a second victim during the confrontation, causing minor injuries.
Officers also investigated damage to the male victim's vehicle. Stemple is alleged to have thrown or struck the vehicle with the flashlight, damaging the paint and a taillight.
Officers collected statements, photographed the reported injuries and property damage, and recovered a large flashlight believed to have been involved in the incident. Stemple initially remained inside a nearby camper while officers attempted to speak with her. After officers communicated with her, she exited the camper and was taken into custody without further incident.
Emergency Medical Services responded to Marvel Park after the male victim reported increasing pain and difficulty moving his injured arm. He was evaluated at the scene and released.
Stemple was transported to the Labette County Jail, where she was booked on suspicion of Aggravated Battery and Criminal Damage to Property.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks emphasized the importance of resolving disputes without resorting to violence. "Disagreements can escalate very quickly when someone introduces a weapon or resorts to physical violence," said Chief Spinks. "Our officers were able to safely take the suspect into custody using de-escalation tactics, then provide assistance to the victim, while preserving evidence necessary for the investigation. We encourage people to remove themselves from confrontations and contact law enforcement before a disagreement turns physical and violent."
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspdks.gov.
